The Matrix, starring Keanu Reeves as Neo, a hacker trapped in a simulation, redefined sci-fi in 1999. Its cultural success with Laurence Fishburne, Carrie-Anne Moss, and Hugo Weaving led to two sequels and a fourth film, The Matrix Resurrections, coming out in December.
But that’s not the only “what if” Madonna spilled. She also admitted missing out on playing Catwoman in Batman Returns and passing on a lead role in Showgirls. “I saw them both and I regret that I turned down Catwoman, that was pretty fierce,” Madonna said, reflecting on the role that went to Michelle Pfeiffer. “Showgirls? No.”
Currently, Madonna’s channeling her creative energy into a film about her own life. Unlike previous attempts to make a movie about her, which she described as “the most hideous, superficial piece of crap I’ve ever read,” this project is all her own. “There is nobody on this planet that can write or direct [or] make a movie about me better than me,” she declared.
