One Piece’s a straight-up titan in the anime world! Created in 1997, this hit franchise was gearing up for its 30th anniversary, and the series had some serious bragging rights. From its live-action debut to its ongoing anime saga, all was sunny for the Straw Hat crew. And guess what? The good news just rolled in that One Piece earned yet another Guinness World Record, adding to its impressive trophy case.
This anime series wasn’t just riding the waves; it was making waves. The series was on track to claim the title for the most world records of any manga out there. Eiichiro Oda had been working hard since day one, and his efforts were finally being recognized.
The official announcement came during ONE PIECE DAY’24—a massive two-day celebration packed with all things One Piece. Fans were treated to the exciting news as Guinness World Records confirmed the latest achievement. The prize specifically honored the anime, which had a jaw-dropping DVD collection. As Guinness World Records revealed, “The most DVDs released by a serial anime TV program is 300 for One Piece, released by Avex Pictures Inc. (Japan) between February 21, 2001, and July 3, 2024.” Talk about an impressive haul!
This record was just the latest feather in the cap for One Piece. The biggest crown jewel it held was the title for the most copies of any comic book series published by a single author. Oda snagged this epic award back in 2015, and it was confirmed again in 2022 after One Piece crossed the 500M print copies mark globally.
In Jan. 2023, Lam Siu Fung was awarded a Guinness World Record for his mind-bending collection of One Piece merchandise—20,125 pieces of memorabilia. Not even Oda could compete with those numbers, so Fung definitely earned his accolades!
As this anime series continued to expand its legacy, the series faced new records and challenges. Be it anime breakthroughs or skyrocketing manga sales, the Weekly Shonen Jump series was unstoppable.
The One Piece anime first aired on Oct. 20, 1999. From the first two DVDs released on Feb. 21, 2001, the series had been churning out about 12 DVDs every year. Its milestone 300th DVD set, containing episodes 1086-1088 of Season 20 “Wano Country,” dropped on July 3, 2024.
The series is a testament to the adventures of Luffy and his crew, proving that when it comes to anime, the sky’s the limit!
One Piece is available to watch on Spectrum and Pluto TV.
